We caught train from Delhi up to Chandigarh where we met our driver for the 3.5 hr trip 7000 ft up the foothills of the Himalayas to Shimla- the old summer residence of the Raj, from where we Brits used to govern 20% of the world's population for over a hundred years- those were the days!
Just before Shimla we stopped off for lunch with Ravan, an old school chum of our tour organiser, Cpt Paddy. This is the magnificent view from his Guesthouse.
After lunch we walked a little way along the Kalka to Shimla Narrow Guage railway line - a Unesco World Heritage site, being completed in 1903.
We drove up to Shimla where we are staying for 3 nights at Chapslee, an old colonial mansion built in 1831 and maintained in its original condition and splendour.
Really beginning to feel like Colin of India. The Memsahib and I are off for a gander around Shimlar with Ravan tomorrow.
Location:Shimla
Sounds a bit Pithonesque , A parallel existence of colin of India who gets mistaken for the great Coloniser Clive-- there is a film in it I am sure
