It's got a nice pool and hot tub, lovely after a hard days sight-seeing.
We were off early this morning to the Amber Fort (it's the original palace of the Maharaja of Jaipur built in the 16th century)
We couldn't get out of the elephant ride up to the palace
but were rewarded with spectacular views when we got there.
We headed back to town to look at the Observatory- however, not a telescope in sight. Built in 17th century it has the biggest sundial in the world,
and other assorted instruments designed to pinpoint the exact time of birth and astrological chart for the royals. Horoscopes are still used by most Indians to match partners when arranging marriages - you'd think they'd be using DNA by now!
We "passed" the Palace of Wind- didn't feel the need to go there after the number of curries we've been eating- and then took a gander at the "new" palace next door also built in the 17th century, which among other things, houses the biggest silver pot in the world.
Before jumping in the hot tub we finished off the tour with a little shop around the hectic bazaar in Jaipur- anyone for a turban?
Last night we walked out to find a restaurant in town, but just went around in circles for an hour so returned to the hotel for dinner. Saw the place today, so are confident of finding it tonight!
We would like to know (since you've just been to the Observatory park) whether Jupiter is in the ascendancy?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't climb high enough to see!
DeleteAre you heading back to the Palace of the Wind? Sounds like my sort of place...
ReplyDeleteI thought I make my own in bed tonight
