Tripping in Pushkar

Our next stop was the holy town of Pushkar, which according to our guide, has the only temple dedicated to Brahma in India, and for Hindus is somewhat akin to Mecca for the Muslims. Every Hindu must visit the temple and bathe in the lake at least once in their life.

Pushkar is also famous for the annual camel fair which was held about a week ago, where 50,000 camels congregate- we came across a few hangers on..

.. And a large contingent of resident hippies, attracted by the mysticism, yoga and freely available cheap drugs! There is no alcohol in the town but you can buy "Special Lassi"- yoghurt laced with an intoxicating substance, in all the cafes.
We stopped off at a cafe for a "sundowner" but only indulged in the banana Lassi , while being entertained by the local band.

We stayed the night at the pleasant Pushkar Resorts hotel just far enough out of town to get a beer.

We were up at 5.30 am to climb 1000 ft up the Savitri hill overlooking Pushkar to witness another amazing sunrise.

In the company of a monkey or two - no I don't mean the Mehmsahib!

Location:Pushkar, Rajahstan

  1. Is it cold? The monkey seems to be copying Sue's stance (or is it the other way around?)
